GRANTS AND MODEL PROGRAMS

Model Arts School District Programs
Since 2005 the Arts Commission has been working in a systematic way with school districts to develop model arts programs that offer arts standards-based instruction in visual arts and performing arts, taught by trained teaching artists, to enhance language and literacy skills. There is abundant evidence that arts, both in their own right and when integrated into a content area in which other subjects are taught, significantly enhance learning.

Kemble Elementary School Program
The Arts Commission is partnering for a third year with Kemble Elementary School in the Sacramento City Unified School District to implement a model arts program using the performing arts to support their Culturally Relevant Pedagogy initiative. Partially funded through a grant from the California Arts Council, teaching artists are working with 26 classrooms in grades K-3, providing eight classes each in visual and performing arts for students.

Past Model Arts partnerships include:

  • Robla School District
  • Rio Linda School District (now, Twin Rivers School District)

Inquiries
The Arts Commission is committed to developing model programs in many more school districts in the County. We welcome inquiries from school districts interested in replicating any of our current programs or developing new projects.

Community Arts Programs: Community Organizations Partnering with Regional Artists
This program supports community organizations that partner with regional artists in the visual, performing, media, or literary arts to develop projects that promote their organizational missions and enrich their important work in the community. The Arts Commission facilitates these collaborations and provides professional development as needed. Due to reduced funding, the Community Arts Program is currently closed. To learn how you can support funding for the arts, visit our Arts Advocacy page.

The goals of Community Arts Programs (CAP) Project are to:

  • Develop arts programming for constituents that furthers the goals of the organization
  • Increase capacity for artists and organizations to collaborate on future arts education programs
  • Offer programming with substantial impact over time
  • Support hands-on learning in the arts disciplines
  • Encourage self-discovery, creativity, and expression through the arts
  • Support personal growth, healing, and communication through the arts
  • Celebrate culturally specific, contemporary, and traditional artistic expressions
  • Build connections and community
  • Learn more about what contributes to successful collaborations between non-arts organizations and artists.
