Members of The Sacramento Bee staff would like to share information on How To Write a Successful Press Release. Please click on the links below to download a copy of handouts. Please note that submitting a good press release does not necessarily mean that your story will be published.

Tips: Submit your press release 4-6 weeks in advance of the event.

Download a PDF of tips on how to submit photos with your press release.
All photos must be sent to sacbeephotos@sacbee.com. It is strongly encouraged that you do not send your photos to a staff person's email address. Send your press release to the staff person, without photos, but with a note letting them know to look on sacbeephotos@sacbee.com for your photo. Make sure that your photo is named in a way that easily lets them know it relates to your press release.

Health Insurance for Artists
Health insurance is an important topic to many artists and others employed in the creative industries. The California Arts Council has an informational web page about the topic with some basic facts and resources.

New Health Care Guides for California Artists
The Actors Fund recently published a health care guide for Sacramento. The guide provides a thorough explanation of health care options in this area and answers common questions specifically geared towards artists.
The Actors Fund also manages The Health Insurance Resource Center's website (HIRC), which lists additional health care resources available to artists. The aim of HIRC is to reduce the number of uninsured artists and expand access to quality, affordable health care. Read more.

Fractured Atlas
Fractured Atlas is a non-profit organization that serves a national community of artists and arts organizations. We're a national organization that supports folks at every level of the cultural ecosystem. Mostly that includes individual artists—performing, visual, literary, design, media, and everything in between—and arts organizations—from one-person outfits to the biggest of the big. We help artists and arts organizations function more effectively as businesses by providing access to funding, healthcare, education, and more, all in a context that honors their individuality and independent spirit.

For Dancers and Dance Companies
The California Dance Network is a free resource for dance artists and enthusiasts. Users can create free profiles to promote themselves and their work, get listed on a statewide dance map, post and search for events, and stay informed with current news and reviews from throughout the country. Visit the official website.

For Performing Arts Groups
The California State Grange has converted an old farmer’s store into a performing arts center, complete with a 50 seat multi-purpose theater and offices to accommodate up to eight resident performing arts groups. The Grange is looking to sponsor resident performing arts groups and will support organizations by offering low-rent offices for $200-$400 per month. Resident groups will share the theater space for performances, recitals, and classes. The theatre space will also be available to rent by non-resident groups.
